From Broken Hill to Adelaide RV: The Real Story Behind the Adventure Ready Brand
When people see Adelaide RV today – the busy dealership, the huge service facility, the YouTube channel, and the growing community of caravan owners travelling Australia – it’s easy to assume the journey was smooth from the start. But according to founders Jeb and Cassie Grose, the reality looked very different.
In the first episode of the Adventure Ready Podcast, filmed beside the campfire at Lake Bonney in South Australia’s Riverland, the couple reflected on the early days of building Adelaide RV from scratch. The conversation was an honest, funny, and interesting look at the history behind the business we know today.
A Young Couple With Big Dreams
Long before Adelaide RV became one of South Australia’s most recognised caravan dealerships, Jeb and Cassie were simply a young couple from Broken Hill trying to build a better future.
They didn’t come from money, and they certainly didn’t walk into a ready-made business. In fact, Cassie moved out of home at just 17 years old, and together they bought and renovated their first house in Broken Hill. They gutted the property themselves, rebuilt it room by room, and eventually sold it to help fund the launch of Adelaide RV.
“We funded the whole thing ourselves,” Cassie explained during the podcast.
That early hustle became the foundation for everything that followed. The pair opened Adelaide RV with just five caravans on the lot and a small dealership that was still being painted when customers first started arriving. At the same time, they were living in a written-off caravan behind the business.
Jeb laughed while recalling those days, explaining they didn’t even have a proper dining table. Instead, they would sit on the bed at night eating dinner after 15 or 16-hour workdays. During winter, the caravan was freezing cold, there was barely any hot water, and the wind literally came through holes in the walls.
Looking back now, both of them admit it sounds crazy, but at the time they were simply focused on surviving and building something meaningful.
Why Adelaide RV Felt Different
One of the biggest themes throughout the conversation was how stale the caravan industry felt at the time they entered it. Cassie explained that many dealerships were operating the exact same way they had for years. The energy was flat, the customer experience lacked excitement, and there was very little innovation happening in the retail space.
Jeb and Cassie believed they could bring something fresh to the industry. They were young, energetic, ambitious, and genuinely passionate about caravanning and adventure. Jeb joked that their original strategy was simple:
“We just have to be a little bit better than everyone else.”
That attitude became part of Adelaide RV’s identity. Rather than focusing purely on sales, they focused on relationships, customer experience, and building a team culture people genuinely wanted to be part of.
The Funny Stories That Built the Business
The podcast was packed with stories from the early days, with one of the best involved Adelaide RV’s very first customer.
While Jeb and Cassie were still painting the dealership fence and setting up signage, a woman named Ann slowed down in her car to investigate what was happening. The site at the time was a complete mess – paint everywhere, unfinished buildings, and caravans squeezed into a half-prepared yard.
Cassie remembered Ann walking through the dealership while it looked like “an absolute bomb site,” but despite that, Ann returned on opening day and became Adelaide RV’s first official caravan sale.
Then there were the overnight caravan deliveries. Manufacturers were regularly running late, which meant transport drivers would arrive in Adelaide at two or three o’clock in the morning with customer vans. Jeb and Cassie would have to jump out of bed, clean and detail the vans themselves, stock hampers, and prepare everything before the customer arrived for handover at 9am.
“The customers had no idea,” Jeb laughed. “They’d just roll up and pick their van up.”
It became normal for the pair to survive on almost no sleep while trying to keep customers happy. But through all that chaos, every challenge taught them something, and every disaster created a new process.
Building a Trusted Caravan Dealership in Australia
A major turning point came when Jeb secured a dealership agreement with Supreme Caravans. Even now, he laughs about how intimidating those meetings felt.
“I was absolutely sh***ing myself,” he admitted during the podcast.
At the time, Adelaide RV was still a young business trying to prove itself. Securing respected Australian caravan brands gave the dealership credibility and helped launch the business into a completely different level of growth. Within a few years, Adelaide RV was selling huge volumes at caravan shows and rapidly expanding its team.
Today, the dealership is recognised across South Australia for family touring caravans, off-grid setups, customer support, and premium Australian-made brands like Supreme, Leader, and Goldstream RV.
The Meaning Behind “Adventure Ready”
One of the most interesting parts of the conversation was hearing where the phrase “Adventure Ready” actually came from. According to Jeb and Cassie, it started as an inside joke because their lives were always spontaneous.
A random weekend road trip.
A last-minute holiday.
A decision to hook up the caravan and leave town with almost no planning.
That mentality eventually evolved into the Adventure Ready brand philosophy. For them, caravanning is about freedom. It’s about creating opportunities to spend time with family, disconnect from busy routines, and make memories on the road.
“A caravan gives you freedom,” Jeb explained. “You can get home Friday afternoon, hook on, and you’re away.”
That idea now sits at the heart of Adelaide RV’s message. We’re not simply selling caravans – w’re helping Australians experience more of the country and spend more quality time together.
The Sacrifices Behind the Success
One of the most emotional moments in the podcast came when Jeb reflected on how much Cassie sacrificed during the early years of the business.
“You sacrificed your entire 20s,” he told her openly.
While many people were travelling, partying, or figuring out careers, Cassie was building systems, managing accounts, creating processes, handling onboarding, and working behind the scenes to keep the business alive. Jeb admitted that during those early years, much of the public attention focused on him as the face of Adelaide RV, while Cassie carried enormous pressure in the background.
What’s Next for Adelaide RV?
Despite everything they’ve achieved, Jeb and Cassie made it clear they believe Adelaide RV is only getting started.
The business is continuing to expand into:
- Larger dealership facilities
- Faster servicing capabilities
- Commercial and rental caravan solutions
- Media and content production
- Community events and owner groups
- Charity initiatives supporting Australian families
But through all of it, the mission remains the same – helping Australians get out on the road and create meaningful memories together.
Jeb summed it up neatly during the podcast:
“We’re not selling caravans. We’re creating opportunities for experiences.”
And after hearing the full story behind Adelaide RV, it’s hard not to see exactly why that message resonates with so many Australian families.
